How does Frigo work? From sensor to alert in four steps.

By Frigo · Updated: October 2026

Frigo monitors rooms and equipment where a deviation gets expensive: cold rooms, freezers, medicine storage, server rooms, display cases. This guide explains how the system is built, what it measures, who is notified and when, and what it deliberately does not do.

In short
  • Stick-on sensors measure temperature and humidity around the clock, with no rebuild and no cabling.
  • When a limit you set is exceeded, the named recipients are notified by app and e-mail.
  • Every reading and every deviation is recorded with a timestamp and available as a PDF report.
  • Frigo only monitors. It does not cool or heat anything and does not replace the monitored equipment or an audit.

The process in four steps

Frigo works as a loop: detect, alert, document, improve. Four things make that happen.

1Attach the sensor

Sensors are fixed with adhesive, for example in the cold room, in the freezer, in the medicine cabinet or in the display case. No rebuild and no cabling are needed. Installation takes under five minutes per sensor.

2Establish the connection

Sensors transmit via LoRaWAN, a radio network with low power consumption and long range. Frigo connectivity is required for every setup. One unit covers most locations, larger sites may need more. Range depends on the building and its surroundings.

3Set limits and recipients

You set an upper and lower limit per sensor and decide who is notified. That can be the kitchen team, the pharmacist, the facilities technician or you. Notifications arrive by app and e-mail, SMS is available as an add-on.

4Monitor, document, improve

As soon as a reading outside its limit reaches the platform, the alert goes to the named recipients. The readings are available in the browser and in the iOS and Android apps. Frigo records every reading and every deviation with start, end and duration, and produces PDF reports automatically. Frigo AI adds a short plain-language note per sensor: what happened, what is drifting, what needs attention.

What Frigo measures

  • Temperature and relative humidity as the standard measurement
  • Door contact and light sensing where useful
  • Measurement happens at the sensor's location, for example the air temperature in the unit, not the core temperature of goods or medicines

What Frigo does not do

  • It does not cool or heat. Frigo does not intervene in the monitored equipment, it only reports.
  • It does not replace equipment. A broken fridge stays broken, but you find out immediately.
  • It is not a certification. Frigo supports your self-monitoring and documentation and does not replace an audit or an official inspection.
